Explanation of the 3D-RHEED principle. For 3D mapping, a series of traditional
RHEED images are taken while discretely moving the sample so that the Ewald sphere sweeps out
the 3D region of interest in reciprocal space. The resulting images are then assembled into a 3D
map of reciprocal space, from which sections in the planes of interest can then be extracted.
