The supplementary material contains the derivation of equation (4), full error calculations, examples of white light fringe data at high temperature, plots of refractive index versus pressure for C2H6 at 380 K and C3H8 at 295 K, EOS data for NaCl at 295 K, further experimental details, and details of how the data in figure 7 were prepared.
